At noon of midsummer in Yangmingshan, it was breezy and not particularly hot. When President David HT Chen arrived at a house located at the mountainside, he changed into casual shoes, wore his hat and farming gloves, picked up a clipper, and just walked to the mountain stairs behind the house. We followed him and climbed up, passing by an old osmanthus tree, a camellia tree, and a huge cherry tree. Finally, we saw a vegetable farm.
This old house built on the mountainside of Yangmingshan was bought by the president's father over 60 years ago. After having been cleaned up a few years ago, the house has become a lohas base for farming in the mountain on weekends when the president gets off work every Friday. “See, this small loofah can be harvested in a week's time. And these tomatoes can also be harvested…” He clipped off a cluster of tomatoes, giving us a cheerful smile under the bright sunshine.
Leading THL to work hard half of a century, President David HT Chen no longer pursues “quick, rush and fierce” when speaking of the philosophy of business management. He brought us to his vegetable farm to manifest how he pragmatically cultivates his mind.
“Being a business manager is like being a farmer. You must carefully observe so that you can identify the direction, recognize and make use of talents. You can only harvest when you really work down to earth and take good care of it!” With heavy loofahs and fruits at hand, President David HT Chen then said, “When you plant a seed, you start to worry if it will sprout, grow well, and even if the seed brand has any problems. Then, when the leaves grow, weeds will subsequently appear. You’ll have to pull out the weeds and eliminate bugs or insects…”
“This is how business management works. Although it's tiring to do many things, when you see the fruit of your labor, you'll know that everything is just right!” President David HT Chen smiled with satisfaction.
